Attorney Scott Smith Speaks at NOSSCR Conference in Austin

Smith Godios Sorensen Inc. attorney Scott Smith was a speaker at the recent NOSSCR Conference held in Austin, Texas.  NOSSCR stands for the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives.  NOSSCR is a specialized bar association for attorneys and advocates who represent Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income claimants.  The mission of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR) is to advocate for improvements in Social Security disability programs and to ensure that individuals with disabilities applying for Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income benefits have access to highly-qualified representation and receive fair decisions.  All of the attorneys at Smith Godios Sorensen are members of NOSSCR.  Being members of NOSSCR and attending these conferences helps us to keep informed on new policies and laws that impact our clients.  Attorney Scott Smith also sits as an elected member of the NOSSCR board representing the Sixth Circuit.  The Sixth Circuit includes the states of Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

Attorney Scott Smith gave a speech at the NOSSCR conference about the importance of Pre and Post-Hearing Briefs, which are the documents that the attorneys at Smith Godios Sorensen Inc. write in support of our clients’ cases.  We feel strongly that good disability attorneys should write these for their clients.  Prehearing briefs help to educate judges about a client’s medical and work history and makes it clear to the judge in writing why our client qualifies for Social Security benefits.  Post-hearing briefs aren’t as commonly used, but they can be helpful in certain cases.  Post-hearing briefs are submitted to the judge after the hearing on particular issues that require additional research or comment.  They are often used to educate a judge on something or to put an objection that arose during the hearing in writing.

Scott Smith has been a speaker at many NOSSCR conferences over the years on a number of different topics related to the practice of Social Security Disability law.  We’re proud to have him as part of the Smith Godios Sorensen Inc. team!
