Attorney Shannon Sorensen ran the Girls on the Run Fall Season Celebratory 5K yesterday in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. Girls on the Run is an amazing nonprofit organization that empowers young girls through the sport of running. Participants meet in small teams with trained volunteer coaches that facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with critical life skill development. This helps instill confidence, teamwork, and the importance of physical activity in these young girls. Girls on the Run uses a research-based curriculum structured around helping young girls to understand themselves, learn to value relationships and teamwork, and to recognize how participants can shape the world at large. Programs like Girls on the Run are particularly important at a time when societal pressures and conflicting messages about how young girls should feel and act can cause doubt and uncertainty. Above all, Girls on the Run seeks to instill the following life skills: confidence, character, care, connections, competence, and contribution. They current serve girls in Summit, Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, and Portage Counties.
At the end of each season, Girls on the Run puts on a celebratory 5K. This run gives program participants of all abilities an opportunity to use the skills they’ve gained from the program to complete the 5K distance and to obtain a sense of accomplishment when they cross the finish line. Attorney Sorensen participated in the Fall Season celebratory 5K and had a wonderful time supporting this fantastic organization that is doing so much for the young girls in our community! Despite the very cold weather, everyone was full of positivity and had lots of fun. Click here if you’d like to learn more about Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio.
